Is MSU about to land Georgia SG Chris Allen?

"He's just trying to speed the process up and he's going to make a decision pretty quick," Stacy Allen, Chris' father told Telep. "Right now it is set for Thursday. We were going to possibly do it Wednesday. I'll know definitely in a few hours."

EAST LANSING - GoSpartans.net has learned that Michigan State is close to getting a verbal commitment from Norcross, GA shooting guard Chris Allen, one of the top shooting guards in the country.

Scout.com's Dave Telep has been watching the situation closely and likes MSU's chances.

Telep, who spoke to Allen's father this week says MSU head coach Tom Izzo will make the trek to the Peach State in expectation of getting the sharpshooters verbal in the bag for the 2007 season.

"He's just trying to speed the process up and he's going to make a decision pretty quick," Stacy Allen, Chris' father told Telep. "Right now it is set for Thursday. We were going to possibly do it Wednesday. I'll know definitely in a few hours."

MSU has already secured a pledge for the 2007 recruiting class. Kalin Lucas, a five-star point guard from Orchard Lake St. Mary. Allen, a four-star shooting guard would give MSU a solid backcourt tandem deep into the future.

MSU's 2006 class includes 7-foot Tom Herzog, 6-foot-6 forward Isaiah Dahlman and 6-foot-7 forward Raymar Morgan. The Spartans will lose starting center Paul Davis and starting shooting guard Maurice Ager and speculation lingers that junior swingman Shannon Brown might jump to the NBA. If that's happens, MSU might find room for Belleville scorer Leon Freeman in the '06 class.
