Spartans Hosting Key Recruits

This weekend will be big and busy one for the Spartans as they look at many high profile recruits, while some other players have been eliminated from consideration.

Okemos,MI-GSN is on the beat to give you the latest information regarding recruiting news, and we were able to come across some good information.

First, as Mike Fowler and Chris Pool reported, Ervin Baldwin after visiting MSU, has decided that he is no longer committed to K-State simply because he doesn't like the city of Manhattan, Kansas.

Baldwin is a five-star rated defensive end who now has put MSU at the top of his list. MSU is hoping for a Feb.1st signing from Baldwin.

MSU's weekend visitor list will be very busy as the Spartans hope to close strong, it includes the following players:

1.Tim Brown-Brown is a 5-foot-8, 165-pound wide receiver from Miami Northwestern. He has offers from Rutgers, Louisville, LSU, and South Florida. The problem is, he was listed at 5-foot-7 and 149 pounds when he attended Miami's camp, and did not get a real offer from the Hurricanes, his clear favorite. Although he is small, he is shifty and quick and eludes bigger players. He also ran an impressive 4.25 forty at Rutgers camp.

2.J'Michael Deane-Deane is a defensive tackle from Newtonbrook high school in Ontario, Canada. GSN did a story on J'Michael earlier, and his teammate, Vaughn Martin. Deane at 6-foot-6 and 290-pounds, runs an impressive 4.8 forty time. He had 41+ tackles on the defensive interior this year.

3. Vaughn Martin-Is also from Canada, and Deane's buddy. He actually ran a faster shuttle time than Deane, but runs a slightly slower forty time at 5.09. Martin is 6-foot-4, 300-pounds, and hails from Forest London, Ontario. Here is another defensive tackle MSU would like to have.

4. Ashton Henderson-Ashton is a 6-foot,185-pound cornerback from Tallahassee, Florida. Soft-spoken off the field, he is a hard hitter on it, and he is looking at some big schools that include Ohio State, UCLA, Oregon, Ole Miss, ASU, and others. The Bucks have been reluctant to offer so far and Ashton wants to keep his options open.

5. Seddrick Holloway-Holloway is another player from Tallahassee, Florida, and is listed at 5-foot-10.5 and 230-pounds. This halfback, fullback, linebacker prospect, has offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Illinois, K-State, and now, Florida State, whom he is scheduled to visit on the 27th.

6. Byron Isom-Isom, from Lovejoy, Georgia is a two-way player as a defensive tackle and as a offensive tackle. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, he had 30 pancake blocks on the offensive line, and had 89 tackles and 12 sacks on defense.

7.Roderick Jenrette-This is still yet another kid from Florida via Tampa. The 6-foot-1 and 195-pound player is being recruited as an 'athlete' by MSU. His most natural position seem to be safety, or growing into a bandit linebacker position.

8. Brett Swenson-Swenson has already committed to MSU and is taking his official visit this week.

9. Geno Atkins-From Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Geno had a great visit to Auburn that will be tough to beat. Geno at 6-foot-2 and 270-pounds projects as a defensive end. He had 55 tackles and 12 tackles for loss this year. He runs a 4.7 forty.

10. Bryant Miller-a 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end from Miami, Florida with 4.8 speed. Here'a another guy who gave Auburn high marks so MSU will have to work hard to get him.

Going Elsewhere Department: 1. Robert Rose-Ohio State 2. Quinton Woods-Michigan 3. Bruce Campbell-Maryland 4. Arvell Nelson-Iowa 5. Bryant Browning-Ohio State 6. Olufemi Ajiboye-South Carolina 7. Jeff Maddux-Central Michigan.

A little Junior recruiting news:

MSU is recruiting Orchard Lake St Mary quarterback, Justin Siller. Siller, at 6-foot-3 and 178-pounds, has MSU and Notre Dame among those fighting for his services. He seems to be a Michael Vick play-a-like. Other schools are Louisville, Michigan, Miami(FLA), Northwestern, Ohio State, and yes, Virginia Tech.

Stayed tuned to GSN for other recruiting updates.
