How Committed is George White?

A prospect that I liked a whole bunch on film is Michigan's George White. The 6-foot-3, 249-pounder, from Carman-Ainsworth in Flint, attended the U.S. Army National Combine this past January in San Antonio. White has given Michigan State his verbal commitment but just how solid is that commitment?

"I gave Michigan State my verbal commitment," George White said.

"At the time, I thought it was the best offer I was going to get. Now I'm having a lot of schools sending mail and text messages. There are a lot of other schools that I'd like to hear from and I'll just take it one day at a time."

White is a big, thick, linebacker, that didn't get his chance to play defense until the middle of his junior season. George doesn't have outstanding straight-speed but he does have outstanding football speed.

White could play linebacker or somewhere along the defensive line at the next level. He also plays guard for Carman-Ainsworth and a move to the offensive line in college shouldn't be ruled out either.

"I was moved up to the varsity as a freshman for the play-offs." White told

"I started at guard as a sophomore and as a junior. I moved to linebacker last year about half way through our season and I think I finished the season with around 50 solo tackles.

"I'd like to play linebacker in college. I'm good at reading my keys and getting to the football. I have the quickness to get to the football and I'm a good leader."

White had scholarship offers from Michigan State, Pittsburgh and Indiana before giving the Spartans his verbal commitment.

John L. Smith will have to work hard to keep White in the boat. With several schools now trying to get in the mix, we asked George which schools, if any, he would like to hear from during the May evaluation period.

"Michigan, Florida State, Ohio State, Iowa, Florida and West Virginia are a few schools that I'd like to check out and wouldn't mind visiting." White said.

George White was an all-league selection as a junior. We'll have film of George White available in the very near future.
