Brent brokedown his recruitment to Scout.com, and how everything took place this past month.
"Coach (Andy) Moeller from Michigan offered me, and told me he really liked my athleticism. They use more of a 3-4 defense so it's not really known which position I would play, but that I'll need to add weigh to become the nose tackle and lose weight to play off the edge. He really liked how I play football, basketball, and track," Brent said.
"Michigan State had been talking to my head coach, and then Coach (Derrick) Jackson called me and offered a scholarship. He said they liked my film, and said I jumped out to them. They feel I'm the type of player they need up there."
"Coach (Cornell) Ford from Missouri was visiting a prospect in Springfield, and from word of mouth, was told to come check me out. After I shook his hand, and went out to track practice, he watched film with my coach, and said they'd be offering. I received the offer two days later."
"Coach (Dick) Tressel from Ohio State told me I reminded him a lot of one of their current defensive lineman, David Patterson. He said I could play a three techinique or even play strongside defensive end. He liked seeing my running down kickoffs on film. They have five defensive lineman graduating so there is a chance to play right away."
"Coach (Ron) Zook came by the school, and also called me on the phone. He was just checking up on me. I know pretty much everything I need to know about Illinois, and he knows that, and said that because of that he'll let me take care of my business, and won't be texting me everyday. He just made sure I knew how bad Illinois wants me."
"Coach (Mike) Gundy from Oklahoma State called me, and told me that I'm one their top defensive tackle prospect. He just wants me to come to campus as he said a lot of guys don't expect much before they get there, but are blown away."
"Arizona State came by the school, and basically because I won't visit there unless its an official visit, we are just going to stay in touch to determine whether I want to take an official visit."
"Coach (Kirk) Ferentz came by my school, and I get a text message from Iowa once a week telling me how that they've put 11 defensive lineman in the NFL in the last eight years. They've been a top program they last five or six years, and want me to be a part of it."
Brent concluded his busy month of May this past weekend in winning the state championship in Class A in the shot put with a throw of 55-10(1/2).
Brent also noted that Wisconsin informed him that Coach (Bret) Bielema would be calling before the month ends.
Now, as he sits back and relaxes, Brent will determine which camps and visits he'll take this month.
"I know, for sure, that I will at least visit Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State this summer, and I'll probably attend camps at Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio State. Other than that, it's all up in the air. In July, I begin playing summer basketball and track so everything will probably happen in the next month," Brent concluded. Brent is fully qualified after having a posted a 21 on the ACT. He plans to major in business management and marketing.
