Will Tinney get second chance?

CHICAGO, IL - Michigan State head coach John L. Smith, in his first public comments on the Ken Tinney situation indicated that there is an outside chance that the expelled freshman corner could return to the MSU football team this season.

Tinney, who was among MSU's most highly touted recruits, given four-stars by Scout.com, was dismissed from the team for what published reports say was missing class and not being accountable off the football field.

At the time of the dismissal, MSU spokesman John Lewandowski termed it a "one-way bus ticket" home. But Smith indicated at the Big Ten meetings that Tinney has expressed contrition and wants to get back involved with the program.

"Here's what I would hope for, I'm trying to be optimistic: He comes back, he's learned a lesson, he's decided that he's got a great opportunity in his life and that really there's nothing for him at home," said coach Smith.
