"We felt it would be good for Travis because he'll have to take a big step for us next year. It'll be good for him. Tommy will be a good guy to play for, and having four or five practices and games will help him a lot," said Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo
Each team selected a player or two to be eligible for the team and Izzo tabbed Walton to take the trip. In a Michigan State press release, Walton indicated he was eager to see another part of the world and the experience that comes with it.
"I played some basketball in Italy when I was in high school, and I'm excited to be able to travel again. I just want to continue working on what I've been doing all summer, improving my shooting and becoming more of a team leader."
The team will be in Australia for a ten-day tournament against the country's national touring team and several other club teams.
