He now favors Michigan State slightly over Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan. The Spartans and Badgers have already offered. He also has offers from Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo and Cincinnati.
Wheat will be visiting the Spartans officially on September 23 for the Notre Dame game. He will also be attending the Eastern Michigan game on September 9.
"They send me a letter everyday," Wheat said. "I like the coaches because they are very personal and honest with me. They are really looking up and they think that they are moving in the right direction. They told me that they'll be even better in 2007 because of the recruiting class they've put together."
Despite not having an offer from the Wolverines, he plans to attend the Vanderbilt game on September 2.
"Wisconsin told me over the phone that they have an offer for me, but I haven't gotten it in writing," Wheat said. "They are recruiting me pretty hard and I'll be trying to visit them this season too.
"I plan to play it by ear," Wheat said. "I want to visit all my faves and see how the season goes and who seems to want me the most at the end of the year. This should be a fun year to watch. There are a lot of teams that have a chance to do well. I really think that Michigan State has a lot of talent and should have a pretty good year."
Wheat played his first game yesterday and will play Warren DeLaSalle next weekend.
He reports a 2.9 GPA and a 16 ACT, which he is retaking on October 8.
