No. 1 Shooting Guard Decides

The No. 1 shooting guard prospect in the country is off the board. On Friday, Shannon Brown ended his recruitment. He's officially off the board and is headed to …

Michigan State Lands Shannon Brown

We're speculating but Friday had to be a good day around the Michigan State basketball office. Sometime in the afternoon, Proviso East shooting guard Shannon Brown elected to end his recruiting process and select the Michigan State Spartans.

Brown was in love. The Spartans had been on his mind for the last month. "I loved everything about the school," Brown said.

In July, we wrote how Izzo and assistant Brian Gregory dogged Brown's every move. Well, it worked out and Brown noticed. "[Coach Izzo] was always around. Just once he probably sent an assistant. At Nike Camp, he didn't even leave to go to ABCD until it was over."

Playing alongside Illinois-bound point guard Dee Brown (no relation) last year, Shannon hit for 51 in a game and averaged 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

He says there's only one thing on his mind as he thinks about MSU and that's winning the national title. "That's No. 1. That's why I picked them; to win the title."

While Brown kept his school list secret most of the time this summer, in the end he said it was just Michigan State and Illinois. With his commitment, the Michigan State perimeter appears to be as strong as ever and another national title run could be just down the road.
