Michigan State is again one of the favorites to capture the CCHA hockey title in the 2006-07 season. GSN hockey analyst Rob Bennett spoke to CCHA Freshman of the Year Jeff Lerg and forward Chris Mueller about the Spartans chances for success this season.

EAST LANSING - The Michigan State hockey program has been selected by the media as the favorite to win the CCHA title in the 2006-07 season.

The Spartans picked up seven first-place votes and 117 points overall in the writer's poll, while Michigan was second with 108 points, but only one first-place vote.

Defending regular-season champion Miami received the remaining four first-place ballots, and was one point behind Michigan (107). Ohio State (84 points), last season's pre-season favorite, was selected fourth.

The CCHA coaches poll tabbed the Wolverines (845 points) as the favorite to win the title by a single point followed by the Spartans (844 points) with the Redhawks tabbed for third place (800) points.

MSU senior defenseman Tyler Howells was named to the second-team preseason all-CCHA team while sophomore Jeff Lerg, the conferences' freshman of the year a season ago was named first team preseason all-CCHA.
