Defensive end Johnson commits to Michigan St.

Michigan State isn't doing so well on the football field, but that isn't stopping them on the recruiting turf.

EAST LANSING - Michigan State isn't doing so well on the football field, but that isn't stopping them on the recruiting turf.

The Spartans added defensive end Ishmyl Johnson, a one-star defensive end from highly regarded Milford Academy verbally committed to Michigan State after visiting this weekend.

State beat out Pittsburgh, Temple and ironically, Illinois for Johnson's services.

"Temple offered me a scholarship. I also have Illinois and Michigan State (looking at me)," Johnson told Scout.com's Bob Lichtenfels prior to making his commitment. "I've been hearing from Michigan, Miami and Pittsburgh as well."

Johnson adds to an impressive recruiting class that features four four-star Scout.com prospects.
