Lerg's sparkling 25 save outing was enough to make cousin Bryan Lerg and Tim Crowder's goals stand up at Munn Arena and likely preserve MSU's standing as the #4 ranked team in the nation.
MSU moved to 4-3-1 in CCHA play but 6-3-1 overall.
Notre Dame won the series opener 4-1 in South Bend on Friday. Jason Paige rammed homethe first of his two goals, with a rebound of Noah Babin's wrister to give the Irish a 1-0 lead midway through the second period.
Paige struck again before the period ended and then just fourteen seconds later Jason White added a tally to put the Fighting Irish up 3-0.
Bryan Lerg's third period goal cut the lead to 3-1 but defensiveman Brock Sheahan's long slap shot rattled in off the post behind Lerg for the margin of victory.
MSU remains undefeated at home with the win, running their mark to 5-0-1 at Munn. They next face crosstown rival Michigan Tuesday at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor.
