Seven former Cincinnati assistant coaches resigned yesterday to join Dantonio in East Lansing. Among them: offensive coordinator Don Treadwell, a former MSU assistant; tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Mark Staten, quarterbacks coach Dave Warner, defensive line coach Ted Gill, linebackers coach Mike Tressel, former MSU defensive back, now defensive backs coach Harlon "Mr. Bang Stick" Barnett and offensive line coach Dan Roushar.
There is some thought that Roushar and Warner will be reassigned to make room for current QBs coach Dan Enos who coached quarterbacks for Dantonio at Cincinnati and Jeff Stoutland, the offensive line coach under John L. Smith who has successfully recruited three high profile prospects, Mark Wetterer, Paul Simkovich and Jack Cornell.
It was also believed that defensive line coach Derrick Jackson, who was making in roads into the fertile Detroit area and Public School League fields, could be retained in some capacity, perhaps special teams.
Also, Dantonio has asked defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi to join him in the same capacity after Cincinnati's bowl game. Narduzzi is serving as interim head coach at Cincinnati but has not been promised the job. Cincinnati has said it will conduct a national search for the right candidate.
Dantonio could have his full staff on board quickly and Warner along with the holdovers from MSU's staff are recruiting right now.
