Four star defensive tackle Joseph Barksdale told Scout.com's Alan Wallace that he intends to make a verbal commitment following the Scout.com U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio.
State really made a move on Barksdale following a visit by big defensive tackle and his parents with coach Dantonio. The parents, particularly Barksdale's father, a minister, were impressed with Dantonio's principles and values.
Meanwile, Trotwood-Madison standout safety C.J. Peake, who verballed last week to Wisconsin is now said to be a soft verbal in some recruiting circles and only 50-50 between Wisconsin and Michigan State.
Peake, a four-star Scout.com prospect is the kind of big physical safety prospect that coaches covet. His combination of size (6-foot-2), speed (4.5) and range has made him one of the most highly sought after propsects in the Midwest.
Coaches love his physical nature and his willingness to stick his nose into a pile on run plays. Sources close to his recruitment say he really likes the new Michigan State coaching staff and especially defensive backs coach Harlon Barnett.
Centerville, OH linebacker Will Johnson, a three-star standout is said to be "on the verge" of de-committing from Cincinnati and following Dantonio's staff to East Lansing. Some sources have Johnson as already having given coach Dantonio a verbal commitment.
Finally, offensive lineman Alex Williams from New Orleans Walker, a three-star 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman will visit East Lansing on January 5th. Williams has MSU among his five finalists.
