GSN catches Summer, Roe, Lucas and Riley

GSN's TJ Kelley gets on the road to catch MSU commits Kalin Lucas and Durrell Summers and gives MSU fans a glimpse of 6-foot-11 DeShante Riley of Detroit Country Day

DETROIT - The eyes of many players are on Michigan's hardwood championships and the playoffs are in full swing.

Last week the districts saw many favorites advance to the next round and there were a few upsets but, that can be expected this time of year.

These are also the times where Spartan recruits are making their last senior hurrah before joining the mighty Green and a chance for fans to catch a glimpse at the future.

Redford Covenant features 6'6 athlete extraordinaire Durrell Summers and you can catch this future Spartan Tuesday Night in Hillsdale College's Gymansium. The high-flyer and his fellow Spartans face Lansing Christian in a game which should be the highlight of the State's Class D match-ups as Lansing Christian is a also a title front-runner and is led by Oakland University signee 6'2 guard Peter Bunn.

Game time is 7:45pm and follows the other regional semi-final. There was plenty of seating for this game last year and unlike last year the weather forecast projects May like weather and not the snow storm that kept the audience down last year.

No wins are promised and if Summers and company manage this victory they'll move stay in Hillsdale for the regional final on Thursday(3/15) at 7pm against the Jackson Christian/Adrian-Lenawee Christian winner.

Another future Sparty to look for in Michigan is Orchard Lake St. Mary's 6' point guard Kalin Lucas who is seeking a title in Class A. Last year Lucas's season was upended in the tournament's semi-final and this year the core of the team returns with Lucas at the helm. The speedster has a tough road on the way to glory as they first have to get by Canton 6pm Tuesday night in a regional final warm-up game. I don't expect Canton to win this game but, the other regional semi-final between two of the state's top teams Romeo and Pontiac Northern is a toss up and the winner should test OLSM. Troy High School hosts this regional and the final is set for Friday at 7pm. A great opportunity to cheer next year's Spartans.

For those die-hard recruiting fans, Detroit Country Day takes on defending Class B champion Detroit Renaissance at Warren Woods Tower, Wednesday 7pm. Country Day features 6'11" sophomore DeShonte Riley, who has drawn serious interest from the Izzo staff. Attend this game and expect the big guy to play quality minutes against one of the state's premier basketball powerhouses.

Oh, and Renaissance's 6'3 junior guard Paul Williams and one-time serious Spartan recruit has put up great numbers over the last few games including a game with 55 points and 10 three-pointers. A little Spartan support can go a long way and Williams may be the best player in Michigan's '08 class without a verbal commitment.

Looking into Ohio and for those that feel a little Green influence and support might be able to sway Lakewood St. Edward's star junior Delvon Roe.

The 6'8 forward and his teammates face Strongville at the Canton Civic Center Thursday at 7pm. If, the highly recruited Roe gets through the regional semi-final they'll play the Toledo St. John's/Findlay winner, 7:30pm Saturday at the University of Toledo.
