Now it's time for McCallie to reciprocate and stop the annual fishing expeditions by Universities in search of head coaches for their women's programs.
MSU has now put McCallie where she belongs, in the stratosphere just below all-time greats like Tennessee's Pat Summitt and Conneticut's Geno Aureimma. McCallie is being rewarded for the outstanding job she has done in putting Michigan State on the map in women's basketball and establishing it as a perennial NCAA tournament team, just like men's head coach Tom Izzo has done.
But imagine the worry and consternation MSU head coach Tom Izzo could cause if he used every open vacany that came around to fish for a contract extension or raise? Instead, Izzo has made it known that he loves and adores Michigan State and the University loves and adores him right back.
Even with the vacancy at Kentucky looming, the University knows it won't be blindsided by and Izzo hiring. It trusts that even if Izzo talks to Kentucky, he's unlikely to make a move because he views Michigan State as "his" place, his home, his University.
McCallie has yet to establish that kind of relationship, depsite absolutely owning the state in recruiting and the love MSU has shown her.
Now its time for McCallie to make it known that Michigan State is her final destination, her home, her University.
Anything less than that after two raises in four seasons, would be unfair and disloyal to the University that has really stepped up to the plate for her services.
No more fishing expeditions.
