Spartans Eye Peach State Star

After signing just two defensive end prospects in the class of 2007, new MSU head coach Mark Dantonio has targeted Chase Thomas, a talented pass rusher from the Peach State for the class of 2008. Where do the Michigan State Spartans sit for the Marietta, Ga., speed rusher? Does he have a leader? What type of time table exists for this Spartan target?

With offers from a handful of the top collegiate football programs in the land in his back pocket, Marietta, Ga., defensive end Chase Thomas will have the pick of the litter when it comes to selecting a school for fall 2008.

After a junior season in which the Peach State star recorded 82 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks, interest in the rush end from Walton High School has been picking up momentum for the past few weeks.

"I have offers from LSU, Auburn, Florida, South Carolina, Michigan State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Maryland, Syracuse, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke and Stanford now," Thomas said in an interview with "Florida and Stanford both offered me this week."

While interest in the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder from the Peach State has been increasing over the past few weeks, one school that has been constant over the duration of his recruitment has been the Michigan State Spartans. After being offered in early April, Thomas has become a priority for the Michigan State coaching staff over the past month and a half.

"I'm being recruited by Coach Warner," Thomas continued. "I talk to him every now and then. I know he came and saw me at school and I talk to him on the phone. Most schools are recruiting me at either defensive end or linebacker. He's told me that Michigan State is recruiting me as an end."

With such high profile offers, it would be easy to expect a quick decision and an abrupt end to the recruiting process for the Georgia star. Despite all the attention, however, Thomas has decided to be thorough with the process.

"I'm not really sure yet what I'm going to do this summer," Thomas said. "I don't have a top seven or a top three or anything like that. I need to get out and see some of the campuses before I make any decisions. I would like to reach a decision by the start of my season, though." will continue to bring you the latest as it develops.
