Shortly after making his commitment to Michigan State, Hoover told GSN he has been working the phones, talking to some of the top players in the Midwest.
"I've been talking to a lot of people," said Hoover. "Jonas (Gray) and Kenny Demens (of Birmingham Country Day high school). They've been talking to (Terrelle) Pryor. MarQueis Gray (of Indianapolis Ben Davis) is Jonas' cousin and we've all been talking a lot."
When GSN called Gray to get his reaction, Gray congratulated Hoover on his choice and reiterated that Michigan State remains very much in the hunt for his services and the fact that they landed Hoover only makes their situation even better.
"Right now, I'm still keeping my options open, but I think that would be a great situation," conceded Gray.
Gray said some think MarQueis (no relation to Marquise Gray of the MSU basketball team) is his cousin, but they are actually longtime friends.
Speculation continues to increase that Detroit Southeastern's Fred Smith will join his close friend, MSU commit Charles Burrell at the school. Couple that with the thought of Jonas Gray and MarQueis Gray joining the school and fans begin to salivate over that prospect.
Gray admitted he has much admiration for both of the top players, but remained non-commital on his status.
"I think Fred Smith is a great player and Tyler Hoover is a VERY great player. As far as my situation, I know Michigan State is still looking to recruit running backs, that means I have to continue to look at other schools."
Hoover said the MSU coaches were ecstatic when he told them he was a Spartan.
"They were excited, they called all the coaches into one meeting and gave us hugs, they were very happy."
Hoover says he plans on dialing up Burrell in the next few days.
