The Spartans are drawing serious interest from several of the Midwest's top prospects and gained a commitment from solid four-star defensive end Tyler Hoover this weekend.
Hot off the heels of a sensational performance at the Michigan camp, Smith and his family took a visit to East Lansing. Rumors were flying that Smith might pull the trigger and become the third Spartans verbal, but he said that wasn't why he visited.
"It was fun in East Lansing, it was my parents went up to see the campus, they'd never seen it before," said Smith.
Did he commit as the rumors were saying?
"Oh no, I didn't commit, it was just a visit because my parents had never seen it before. It was nice, but (that's what you'd expect) it's a Big Ten campus," he said.
Smith confirmed that it has basically come down to a two-horse race between MSU and UM. "That's what its looking like right now."
The big receiver from Detroit Southeastern said he knows what he's looking for in his school of choice.
"Feeling comfortable, having a team that's a family that I can go to and feel like they're family, being a good player in the program and getting a great education," Smith said.
They told me they're real interested in me being a Spartans, but this week wasn't really about me, it was more about letting my family see what the campus looks like and getting a feel for it."
"They know Michigan State is one of the schools that's recruiting me the hardest so they wanted to see the campus and meet the coaches."
GSN will continue to monitor all the developments in the recruitment of Smith and keep our readers up to date when breaking news happens.
