EAST LANSING - When your offensive coordinator compares you to an NFL Pro Bowl player, that's high praise. And yet, that's what Michigan State Offensive Coordinator Don Treadwell was doing today at Michigan State's media day.

Treadwell likened MSU starting quarterback Brian Hoyer to Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck who Treadwell worked with at Boston College when Treadwell served as the quarterbacks coach for the Eagles.

"I can see some similarities, at least in the early phase, with Brian right now. With his command (of the offense) and his 'want to'" said Treadwell when asked about some of the better quarterbacks he's coached.

Right now, at this stage, you could say they're similar," said Treadwell who said that he is giving the Spartans quarterback some leeway to make changes to plays and the offense on a limited basis.

Despite the confindence both Treadwell and head coach Mark Dantonio has shown in the senior signal caller, questions arise whether Hoyer can rise to the occasions and pull off the an upset against four of the Spartans top oppponents, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State and get MSU into a bowl game.
