Gardiner Waiting on MSU

Michigan State is hot on the trails of some of the best linebackers in the Midwest. One potential target is linebacker Steve Gardiner. While the Spartans are yet to offer the talented run-stopper, Gardiner is interested in the Spartans and holds them in high regard. What is the latest in Steve Gardiner's recruitment?

With a wealth of experience in the state of Ohio, new Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio is very familiar Dublin Coffman. A school that currently holds five players with division one scholarship offers, Coffman is one of the most well thought of feeding grounds in the state of Ohio.

Standing at 6-foot, 200-pounds, linebacker Steve Gardiner is one of the schools fab five. After a breakout season in which Gardiner exploded onto the scene with 125 tackles, 3 interceptions and over 1,000 yards rushing, schools across the region have shown interest in the talented run-stopper.

"West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Indiana, Syracuse and Oklahoma State are some of my top offers," Gardiner said in an interview with GoSpartans.net. "Michigan State hasn't offered me yet. Since the text message thing, I haven't heard from them much lately."

Although there hasn't been much recent contact between the two parties, Garinder is very comfortable with what he knows of Michigan State. With three trips to East Lansing in the past 12 months under his belt, the Spartans remain one team that Gardiner is hoping to hear from.

"I like it there. I was there for camp in early June. I was there for a spring practice and a basketball game for junior day as well. After I went to the camp the coaches told me that they'd watch me the first couple of games of the season to see how I do. If I do good they could offer me."

How an offer from Michigan State would shake up Gardiner's top list of schools remains to be seen, but while not near a decision, an offer from Michigan State would surely leave the green and white right in the thick of things.

"I'm not extremely close to making a decision," Gardiner finished. "In no particular order my top offers are from West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Northwestern. I'd like to get two more from Ohio State and Michigan State.

"A lot of things are going to go into it. I want to go somewhere with a good education and a good tradition, but I'd like to win a couple games as well."

Steve Gardiner's season begins with the teams first scrimmage against Pickerington North tonight. GoSpartans.net will provide this recruitment.
