The Spartans claimed the lead for good when quarterback Brian Hoyer hit Thomas with a 42-yard bomb to set MSU up first-and-goal at their five yard line. Jehuu Caulcrick cashed in from five to put MSU up by seven.

The Falcons cut the Spartans lead to four on a 31-yard field goal by Sinisa Vrivlo but safety Roderick Jenrette, subbing for an injured Nehemiah Warrick picked off Falcons quarterback Tyler Sheehan giving MSU a first down at the BGSU 18-yard line.

Hoyer connected with Thomas to give MSU the margin of victory.
