ScoutTV: SIGNING DAY: Running Backs

A big bruiser and a shifty scat back join the Spartan family on signing day 2008.

Signing Day introductions:

EAST LANSING - Running backs Glenn Winston (Detroit Denby) and Caulton Ray (Birmingham Brother Rice) bring different dynamics to Michigan State's 2008 recruiting class.

Winston, a 6-foot-1, 213-pounder, brings a brick-house frame to the Spartans, one that could be transformed into a linebacker if the need or his capabilities take him in that direction. Although he's not quite as big, Winston will have an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Jehuu Caulcrick, the thunderous RB who set a Michigan State record for rushing touchdowns (21) last season.

During his senior season at Denby, Winston accumulated 1,473 yards and found the endzone 14 times while earning All-Detroit honors from the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News.

"He has great character," coach Mark Dantonio said Wednesday. "Extremely tough individual."

Winston highlights:

Ray is the Javon Ringer to Winston's Jehuu Caulcrick. His 5-foot-9, 185 pound body mirrors Ringer's frame, and with a season or two under strength and conditioning coach Ken Mannie, he should be prepared to utilize his natural quickness and escapability in the rigorous Big Ten.

Ray rushed for 157 yards on 23 carries while scoring two touchdowns in Brother Rice's Catholic League A-B title-clinching game against St. Mary's Prep at Ford Field.

Ray (6, orange and white) and Winston (3, black and yellow) highlights:

GSN welcomes the newest RB recruits to Michigan State and wishes them well throughout their Spartan career.
