Seniors Chris Mueller and Jeff Dunne scored three of four Spartan goals in Michigan State's 4-0 victory at Bowling Green Saturday night.
But the story of the evening was the return to dominance of goaltender Jeff Lerg in the team's final game before the CCHA tournament with his fourth shutout on the season, a career best. He turned away all 32 of BG's shots, 13 of which came on seven Falcon power plays.
Mueller got the scoring started 5:42 into the game with an assist from Tim Kennedy.
Kennedy struck next, with an assist from Justin Abdelkader, just before the halfway mark in the second period.
Dunne gave the Green and White a three-point lead with a power play goal in the third period, assisted by Michael Ratchuk, and Mueller capped things off with an empty-netter.
The Spartan's third place 19-6-3 conference finish (23-9-5 overall) gives them a bye in the first round of the CCHA tournament. The Green and White will face-off again March 14 at Munn Arena.
