Close to a Green and White Offer

Aaron McCord has his eye on the prizes — scholarship offers from the big in-state schools. MSU is showing him more and more interest and could be close to taking the next step with this athletic DL/OL prospect from Detroit Crockett.

Aaron McCord's recruiting is starting to heat up. The Detroit Crockett product was recently invited to a top-prospect combine in Texas and has the power in-state schools showing major interest.

He visited a Michigan State and Michigan spring practice and hears regularly from other Big Ten schools such as Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The Spartans are even talking scholarship.

"Michigan State is talking about being real close to offering," he says. Part of the hesitation by the Green and White has to do with where the 6-foot-4, 270-pound plus athlete ends up at the next level.

"I guess they're still talking about offensive line or defensive line," he says. Southeast Michigan recruiting falls mainly to running backs coach Dan Enos, who McCord sat down to chat with on his recent visit.

"They want me to go to a summer camp," he says, to evaluate and attempt to determine his viability on the O- or D-line. Building his core will be a focus and maintaining an athletic physique is a priority, regardless of position.

McCord recently reported being impressed with the Spartan program when lined up next to Michigan and attending a spring practice only solidified that perception.

"It was very intense, for one" he said. "Everybody was real serious, you know. There was no being lazy or all that stuff."

As a guide through the recruiting process, he leans on Crockett head coach Roderick Oden. "We're real close," McCord says. "He's not just a coach, he's more like my friend and mentor.

"He's getting me invited to schools. … Coaches are talking to him, like Iowa's coach and Michigan State's coach. He lets me know everything, what I should work on. He keeps me updated."

GSN will keep tabs on all the top recruits in and out state as we head into the summer camp and combine season.
