Fragel Sees Spartan Intensity

"The intensity was high," 2009 TE/OL/DE prospect Reid Fragel said, describing a recent Michigan State spring practice. "It made me want to go out there and practice with them."

Reid Fragel got a chance to see the Michigan State football team in action recently and took note of the team's attitude

"There was a lot of running and the intensity was high," he said. "It made me want to go out there and practice with them."

In fact, Fragel said, the practice stood out for its intensity compared to other spring practices he has attended at other colleges. "It just seemed like they (Michigan State) seemed ready to go."

In addition to getting a view of early-season conditioning and practice, Fragel also spoke with MSU coaches while he was in town, and their conversations included talk of an offer.

"(Tight ends) coach (Mark) Staten, he said 'hopefully we can sit down and propose something and maybe you cane write back or something,' — talking about a scholarship.

"It seemed like they're not really sure yet where they want me at," he said, referring to the position he will play at in the future. "They really want to see me … come down to a camp this summer. Right now it's been more talking to me about tight end or tackle."

While here, Fragel got some sit-down time with Mark Dantonio in his office, and the Spartan head coach also suggested the Green and White could see Fragel as a defensive end. Such a suggestion echoes the move of 2008 signee Tyler Hoover, who played TE and DE in high school before embracing a complete transition to defensive end at Michigan State.

Fragel also recently participated in the recent Badger Sport/New Level Athletics Camp in Akron, Ohio. "It went pretty well. It was good to see the competition," for a scholarship, he said.

The event was a success for him and he says he gained a bit of confidence after participating.

"I think I matched up pretty well. I felt strong," he said. Fragel faced some of the top talent in the Midwest, players like Brother Rice safety and fellow Spartan prospect Shamari Benton.

In the near future, Fragel will likely attend the Ohio State spring game. He says he's reached a nice comfort-level with both Michigan State and Michigan and wants to find out more about the Buckeyes.

GSN will keep tabs on all the top recruits in and out state as we head into the summer camp and combine season.
