That's because one of the top athletes still on the board, Detroit Cass Tech's Thomas Gordon will make his announcement just prior to his team's game against Detroit King.
Gordon's announcement is huge because with as much progress as Michigan State's recruiting staff has made in grabbing talent from the Detroit Public School league, they haven't had much success at talent rich Cass, which has been a virtual pipeline to the University of Michigan.
But recently, leaks in that pipeline have emerged.
First, William Campbell, the consensus #1 player in the state, de-committed from UM and re-opened his recruiting. He has said that he would strongly consider Michigan State. Second, Gordon has stated publicly that Michigan State leads for his services right now.
So if MSU can get a commitment from Gordon, they may finally be able to divert some of the players from that talent-rich program at Cass that seems automatically headed to Ann Arbor.
That would also provide a comfort level for Campbell, who just might join Gordon in East Lansing. What a win-win that would be for head coach Mark Dantonio.
Getting Gordon alone would be a huge catch for Michigan State because, with his combination of size, speed and tenacity, one could see him getting on the field as a freshman in the pivotal safety position.
Keep your fingers crossed Spartan fans.
