EAST LANSING - After enjoying an outstanding unofficial visit to East Lansing over the weekend, Ft. Wayne Blackhawk Christian guard Russell Byrd has cut his recruitment short and will announce his decision on Friday, GSN has learned.

Byrd and his father, Kelly, attended Michigan State's 60's era Midnight Madness and stayed for the football game between Ohio State and Michigan State and by all accounts, the two had a blast.

It would appear on the surface, that Byrd favors Michigan State at this point slightly over Kentucky and a distant Michigan.

Byrd was reassured by the coaching staff just how much they value his talent and showed him that he would hae a role in the playing rotation immediately as a freshman.

The 6-foot-7, 195-pound shooting guard is known for having extreme range and a very accurate shot. His size gives him the ability to play some in the front court, combined with his ball handling ability which makes him extremely versatile.

Spartans fans will have their fingers crossed hoping that Byrd will announce that he's attending Michigan State. Stay tuned.
