MSU jumped out to an early 10-2 lead on back-to-back threes by Chris Allen who finished with 13 points but the Gophers whittled the lead down to just a one-point (30-29) halftime advantage.

MSU got good free throw shooting from Idong Ibok and Raymar Morgan to expand the lead on their first two possessions, then went on a 10-4 run to up their lead to seven.

That when Lucas took over, scoring seven of MSU next eleven points as MSU built a 19-point cushion.

Lucas finished with 24 points, Travis Walton led MSU with five assists. Goran Suton chipped in 11, Raymar Morgan added 10. Delvon Roe shook off an ankle injury to play five minutes in a pinch and scored two points.

For the Gophers, guard Al Nolen led them with 14 points and seven assists, Lawrence Westbrook added 11, but MSU got Minnesota big men Ralph Sampson III and Damian Johnson into foul trouble Sampson was held scoreless and Johnson scored just three. Travis Busch came off the bench to add nine for Minnesota.
