RECRUITING ROUNDUP: On The Verge of Offers?

Michigan State appears to be expanding their recruiting base from the Michigan/Ohio area into the East, Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions in an attempt to find talented players to add to their future rosters.

Michigan State offer list continues to grow and with it, the Spartans appear to be attempting to expand their reach into the near and deep south.

Recently MSU offered Terrence Mitchell, a four-star 5-11, 160-pound corner and athlete from Tampa Hillsborough (FL) and it appears he is genuinely interested in what the Spartans have to offer.

He said recently that he's done with top five list and instead, will take a more analytical approach to recruiting.

"My list always changed for the last few weeks, so I am going to stop doing that for a while. Every time I thought I knew my top five, someone new would offer and change things, so I am just going to take my time."

He said he will take a little more time to decide on where he will take his official visits so GSN will keep close watch to see if this super talent will come to East Lansing.

E.J. Johnson of Cocoa Beach, FL has not yet received an MSU offer, but he reports solid interest from the Spartans. Johnson picked off eight balls last year as a junior and at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, has the size and ballhawking ability that coaches look for in a prospect.

GoSpartans.net will keep an eye on this solid prospect to see if an offer is forthcoming.

Another safety prospect who's situation bears watching is Virginia Beach (VA) Green Run defensive back Zachary Dunston. Dunston runs a 4.6-40 time and he has the ability to "bring the wood". He is known as a hitter who's physical play brings toughness to a defense.

He reports that Louisville is the early front runner, but he isn't ruling anyone out at this point. He also reports solid interest from Michigan State.

Haslett Rairtan (NJ) wide receiver Bennett Jackson recently took an unofficial visit to Michigan State as part of a fact-finding tour of schools in his area and came away impressed.

In addition to MSU, he visited Boston College, Pitt, Rutgers, Northwestern and Notre Dame. He fits the profile of the big, tall physical wide receiver that MSU loves.

Decatur (GA) defensive back/running back Ken Malcome also reports that he is receiving interest from some of the nation's top programs including Michigan State. He reports interest from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan and Michigan State.

The Spartans appear to be in discovery mode and attempting to get to know a little bit more about his player.

Finally GSN is keeping watch on the situation regarding Alpharetta (GA) wide receiver Michael Bennett. Bennett likes the Spartans a lot, why? Because his father graduated from the East Lansing campus and Michael grew up hearing about the Green-and-White.

He visited Michigan State for a junior day, but hasn't received an offer from MSU. However, he promised to camp in East Lansing next month in a bid to grab an MSU scholarship offer.

Stay tuned to GSN for up-to-the-minute recruiting coverage.
