Michigan State chances of landing Dayton Jefferson's 6-foot-10 center Adriean Payne took a quantum leap today when Payne announced that he had narrowed his list to five and it didn't include the previously held favorite Dayton.

Michigan State chances of landing Dayton Jefferson's 6-foot-10 center Adriean Payne took a quantum leap today when Payne announced that he had narrowed his list to five and it didn't include the previously held favorite Dayton.

Payne told the Dayton Daily News that he has narrowed his list down to Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona, Michigan State and West Virginia.

One of the top15 players in the nation according to Scout.com Payne cited a desire to leave the Dayton area as one of his reasons for eliminating them.

GoSpartans.net was among the first to report that Payne was indeed interested in Michigan State despite reports to the contrary. Payne went on record with GSN to let Spartans fans know he was seriously considering MSU.

Now it appears that the Spartans toughtest obstacle will be the resurgent Kentucky Wildcats under new head coach John Calipari.

Calipari has made an immediate impact on recruiting at Kentucky but left behind a program under NCAA investigation at Memphis and there have been rumblings about his tactics, especially involving a player who had committed to the University of Tennessee, but who decommitted and is now considering Kentucky.
