Leslie has taken an unconvential path to his recruiting, not eliminating any schools at all heading into his senior year and he did not play with one traveling AAU team this summer. Instead, Leslie split time playing AAU ball and playing in a pro-am summer league with players like former Piston Jerry Stackhouse.
"I just thought I could get better by playing against better players," Leslie said. "I know I need to work on a lot of things, and this summer I learned I have to get better at everything."
Leslie participated in Scout.com's Dave Teleps Carolina Challenge and the LeBron James Shooting Stars in Akron, but picked his spots rather than wearing himself down playing week-in and week-out.
He lists Michigan State among the teams that he continues to be interested in saying that the coaching staff made an impression upon him when they asked if they could build a relationship with him.
"In my mind, I'm wide open," he said. "My focus this summer was to get better. I worked a lot on that."
