Win over Illini Puts Michigan St in Bowl Mix

For now, MSU has put themselves in a solid position to be in the conversation for either a January 2nd appearance in the Alamo Bowl (#3 pick) or the January 1st Outback Bowl (#4 pick) and barring a collapse, at least an appearance in the December 29th Champs Sports Bowl (#5 pick).

Michigan State's knockout 24-24 win over the Fighting Illini in Champagne on Saturday puts the Spartans right in the mix of the holiday bowl talk.

The Spartans (3-3, 2-1) are now among a group of five teams all sporting one conference loss which includes Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State and Northwestern.

MSU hosts Northwestern on Saturday and are favored to defeat the Wildcats. If they do, it would likely propel them further up the Big Ten bowl hopeful list as Minnesota will be a decided underdog in its next two games at State College and at Columbus.

The Spartans could also move ahead of one-loss Wisconsin as the Badgers who face a 12 noon tilt against Iowa.

The road isn't all roses though for MSU which still must face Iowa in a 7:00pm tilt at Spartan Stadium before going on the road to make their first ever appearance at new TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the Golden Gophers and eventually the season ending Land Grant Trophy showdown against Penn State.
