Recruiting roundup: Sanders leaves MSU at altar

Michigan State recruit Joe Sanders has apparently left the Spartans at the signing day altar.

(EAST LANSING, MI)--Michigan State has made big waves in the recruiting battles over the last week but today a stunning development shocked two programs, the Tennessee Volunteers and the Spartans.

Nashville Hillsboro tight end Joe Sanders who had privately pledged to attend State has now apparently de-committed to both and is ready to sign with the Colorado Buffaloes.

I spoke with coach Ron Aydelott yesterday, and he told me that Sanders had not been particularly forthcoming with information.

But yesterday evening, Aydelott was not happy with what Sanders and fellow Hillsboro standout Chris Russell had done to both schools.

"It's been a bloody mess down here this week," Aydelott told the Rocky Mountain News. "I've had to do a lot of fence-mending with the Tennessee coaches this week. . . . The (CU) staff has done a good job, and I love those kids, but this is not what we teach our kids. We teach them to honor commitments."

The loss leaves MSU with a hole in their recruiting class. They expected to sign Montana Great Falls tight end Jason Goodman, but MSU pulled the offer after learning of Goodman's academic struggles. Goodman ended up commiting to Montana State.

LATE BREAKING NEWS: MSU is making some last minute moves to bolster the seventeen commitments it already has by getting in late on a couple of players. Here what's happening:

Dorrian James, LB, Miami Northwestern. After missing his entire senior season with a torn achilles, James has Florida International as his leader, but MSU believes they can come in late and steal this recruit. James may visit State this weekend.

Ryan Watson, 6' 4", 285, DE River Ridge John Curtis, (LA) Watson, a teammate of MSU recruit Kris Bush is visiting State this weekend and is likely to sign. Watson has been looking for a place to land and he's getting the good word from Bush. Another John Curtis player, Carnell Stewart could visit as well, but is a longshot.
