Michigan State came dangerously close to getting a switch in commitment from Wadesboro, NC Anson defensive tackle Tra Thomas, but in the end, Thomas stayed true to his commitment to Clemson.

Thomas became a soft verbal after he visited Duke after committing to Clemson. That in effect reopens his recruitment.

Late last night, Thomas told Hale McGranahan of CUTigers.com.

"I've got to sleep on it," Thomas said. "I'll know in the morning though."

But when the sunlight came, Thomas was all ready to stay Orange.

"I think he was pretty solid with Clemson all along," said head coach Josh McLaurin. "He had his family here this morning and they were all really excited."

"I don't think he wanted to go that far (away from home," said McLaurin. "All his family and friends can see him play here."

For the Spartans, its just a case of what might have been, for Clemson, they keep a solid prospect in the fold.
