Offers are nothing new for Townsend who has over a dozen from some of the Nation's top schools including Clemson, South Carolina, Illinois, North Carolina State, Maryland, East Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama, Miami, LSU, Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Townsend made headlines when he told a crowd at a banquet in South Carolina that he was "going to Clemson" but that was before he received the offer from Michigan State and a few others.
Now he's backing off the statement and put a press conference that was scheduled for last week on hold indefinitely.
He has the pedigree to warrant the attention of the Big Ten, ACC and Southeastern Conference. At 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, he wracked up 189 tackles and 14 sacks as a junior.
While Clemson remains his early leader, its fair to say that a horse race is developing and Michigan State is at least in it.
GSN will keep strict watch to see what develops and expects to have an interview with Townsend later in the week.
