Russell Would Love To Hear From Spartans

Ohio linebacker grew up following Michigan State and would love to hear more from them.

In another year Ben Russell may have already received the call he's thought about from Michigan State. But the recruiting class of 2011 has already seen the Spartans get an early verbal pledge from one of the top middle linebackers in the country Lawrence Thomas.

Russell, projected by many as an inside backer, will have to show he'd be capable of moving outside for some programs to take a harder look.

Would the Spartans take two projected middle backers?

Not likely as the need for outside linebackers is something that will need to be addressed.

For Russell the chance to earn an offer is something he's not afraid to do.

"I'm planning on going to several camps and look forward to showing what I'm capable of doing."

As for the programs he's visited and been talking with Russell has a pretty good list building.

"I've been to Ohio State, Michigan and Cincinnati lately and I've also been to Pitt, Indiana and several MAC programs. I've got offers from Ball State and Akron."

While Russell is hearing from hometown Cincinnati, he's hoping to hear from the Spartans.

"I've been up to Michigan State for baseball and grew up a Michigan State fan. I'm hoping to talk with Coach Barnett and see what their interest is in me if any."

While Russell may or may not hear from the Spartans, one thing is certain. A good camp showing this summer could open many doors for the 6-foot-1, 228-pound tough as nails linebacker.
