Breaking Down Spartan Green

The Green team wasted little time in picking Junior quarterback Kirk Cousins with their first pick of the 4th Annual Green & White Draft. While this looks to be a major pickup for Coach Tressel for Saturday, he also knows he's got some talent surrounding the Spartans starting quarterback.

With senior Mark Dell and junior B.J. Cunningham as the main offensive targets for Cousins, the Green squad will look to a couple of young running backs to power the running game. True freshman LeVeon Bell and Nick Hill will look to give the Spartan Green some thunder and lightning against the White squad.

Bell was a quick pick by the seniors who picked Spartan Green and for good reason. During his first camp at Michigan State he's shown some early ability with his powerful and punishing running style. While Spartan fans may be looking at the White squad having both Edwin Baker and Larry Caper, the Green squad feels they've got the right mix to win the game on Saturday.

Along the offensive line the Green will look towards John Stipek and Joel Foreman to provide the leadership in the trenches.

Spartan Green will show some youth and veteran leadership on Saturday on the defensive side of the ball.

Up front the Green squad will look at Blake Treadwell, Dan France and Tyler Hoover to provide pressure for veteran linebacker Eric Gordon. The rest of the linebacker core is made up of Steve Gardiner, Max Bullough and Denicos Allen.

But the Green looks strong in the defensive backfield as seniors Chris L. Rucker and Marcus Hyde could prove a good match up against the White squad's offensive attack. Rucker has the makings to have a super senior season and could start his path to the NFL with a strong showing.
