Spartans Offer Ohio Lineman

With coaches on the road recruiting, several new names are starting to appear on the Spartans recruiting list. We get the latest on one prospect from Ohio who got a visit from the Spartans and an offer.

Having picked up offers from Indiana and Illinois on Tuesday gave Chase Hounshell of Mentor (Ohio) Lake Catholic High School his first Big Ten offers. But while Hounshell was excited about those two offers, it was a visit by Spartans defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi that really made his day.

"I was offered by Indiana and Illinois on Tuesday, Michigan State also offered me and I'm very excited about that."

Having visited during the Spartans Spring Game, Hounshell got a chance to learn more about Michigan State.

"I really like Michigan State. I went to their spring game a couple of weeks ago and had the chance to meet Coach Dantonio and Coach Narduzzi. The facilities were crazy, and the weight room is one of the best I've ever seen. I also like the fact there were a lot of people at the game."

While Hounshell is not ready to pull the trigger, he does have the Spartans very high on his list.

"Right now I'd have to put Michigan State at the top of my list. My goal is to try and make a commitment prior to my senior year and to try and play my senior season without any worries on the college front. That is my plan but I don't know if it's going to happen."

While the Spartans may be early leaders, other programs are also showing interest.

"Things are starting to really heat up, I think ten to fifteen coaches have visited the past couple of days. Notre Dame visited today and said they were going to offer me when I go to their camp."

As for what will turn his head, Chase has it all mapped out.

"Playing is a really huge part for me. I need to talk with the coaches about how many guys they are taking at my position and who is going to graduate. Then I want to know when they see me being a key contributor for them."

Looking to study business, Hounshell has a 3.3 to 3.4 GPA and has already taken the SAT with plans on taking it again.
