Spartan 66 Player Ranking #37

In looking at players on the current roster and players getting ready to enter Michigan State this fall, presents its Spartan 66 Rankings. What is our reason for naming sixty-six Spartans? Michigan State last won a National Championship in 1966. We're now at player #37.

SD Ranking: #37

Andrew Maxwell

Position: Quarterback

Exp: Redshirt Freshman

Performance in the spring made it really possible for the Spartan coaching staff to go ahead with the move of Keith Nichol to wide receiver. While Nichol's is still a player at the quarterback position, the number of reps given Maxwell places him as the backup going into camp.

Strengths: Smart, stays within the system

Weakness: Game Experience.

Overall: This was a big move by Mark Dantonio as Maxwell is young and inexperienced. He showed he's capable of getting the job done, but how will it be when it's a Big Ten team he's going against and not his own teammates?

Why He Made The List: He's the backup quarterback unless something crazy happens and he shows he's not capable of getting the job done. If Kirk Cousins can stay healthy, Maxwell will have time to develop his game.
