The Spartans defeated the Buckeyes 72-58 in Columbus to close out the Big Ten season with a 10-6 record. MSU,18-11 overall, ended the season winning eight of its last 11, including a 4-0 conference finish.
In the first meeting the Spartans knocked down 29-of-30 from the free throw line to earn a 66-55 win at the Breslin Center.
The Buckeyes (14-12, 7-8) trailed by as many as 12 points early in the second half, but managed to cut the lead to at 45-43, thanks to a 10-0 run with 10:49 remaining.
MSU answered with a 10-2 run to give the Spartans the lead and dash the Buckeyes chances of comeback.
In the first half the Spartans shot a blistering 68 percent from field, despite getting off to a slow start, and used a 9-2 run to take a 36-29 lead over the Buckeyes at the break.
Sophomore guard Chris Hill paced the Spartans with 11 points, while sophomore guard Kelvin Torbert scored nine on 4-for-4 shooting from the field.
The Buckeyes used six offensive rebounds to score 13 second-chance points to give them the lead for the first 15 minutes of the contest.
The Spartans will compete next weekend in the Big Ten Conference Tournament in Chicago. The Spartans have locked up a first-day bye and will be either a 4th or 5th seed. The conference's brackets won't be determined until Sunday after the Minnesota-Illinois game.
