Spartan 66 Player Rankings #23

In looking at players on the current roster and players getting ready to enter Michigan State this fall, presents its Spartan 66 Rankings. What is our reason for naming sixty-six Spartans? Michigan State last won a National Championship in 1966. We're now at player #23.

SD Ranking: #23

Dan Conroy or Kevin Muma

Position: Kicker

Exp: Redshirt Sophomore & Redshirt Freshman

The pressure is on both of these Spartans to step up and take their game to the next level after the Spartans lose a four-year veteran in Brett Swenson. Spartan Digest gave the #23 spot to both players waiting to see who will claim the job when camp closes. Spartan fans know how important of a role Swenson played during his career, now Conroy or Muma must fill the void.

Strengths: Conroy: Has been in the program for two seasons and saw action in four games last season. Muma: The slate is clean and while he didn't blow the coaching staff away in the spring, he did show much promise enough skill to be in the mix when camp opens.

Weakness: Pressure experience when it matters most (Game on the line).

Overall: In the Big Ten and in Mark Dantonio's schemes the need for a top kicker plays a vital role to the overall success. The kicker has to be called upon and ready when it matters most and the Spartans coaching staff knows they lost one of the best they've had in Swenson.

Why He Made The List: We listed both players until a clear cut winner earns the job in camp. One of the two will step out front and claim his time as the Spartans go-to guy when it matters most.
