Jones Repeats As Big Ten Preseason DPOY

Greg Jones has established himself as one of the countries top linebackers. On Monday he repeated as the Big Ten Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in a vote by the media.

In a vote of Big Ten media, Greg Jones, linebacker from Michigan State University joined Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor as Preseason Big Ten Players of the Year.

For both this is a repeat selection from last season and marks the first time since 1998 that the Big Ten saw both offensive and defensive selections repeat (Andy Katzenmoyer (defense) Ohio State, Ron Dayne (offense) Wisconsin).

Jones, who was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the year after a stellar junior season also earned consensus All-American honors and is listed on the preseason watch lists for the Butkus, Lombard and Nagurski Awards and the Lott Trophy.

Last season Jones led the Big Ten and placed third in the nation with 11.8 tackles per game. He was also fifth in the conference with nine sacks for 53 yards. His 154 tackles last season marked the seventh-highest total in the programs history.
