Davis Makes The Call

Linebacker Ed Davis, a Scout.com 3-star prospect has ended his recruiting and given his verbal pledge. SpartanDigest.com has the latest from the Detroit (MI) Southeastern High School product.

Mark Dantonio and staff continue their impressive run for the Class of 2011 with the verbal pledge of Ed Davis, linebacker from Detroit (MI) Southeastern High School. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound Davis is considered the #40 outside linebacker in the country by Scout.com with a 3-star ranking.

With offers from Michigan, Syracuse and Iowa among others, Davis becomes the 12th verbal pledge to the class and another recruiting victory for Dantonio in the Detroit area over Michigan.

At his press conference at the Sound Mind & Body event Davis expressed why the Spartans won out over the others.

"Just how I felt every time I came up to East Lansing for a visit. The coaches, players, and a couple of former teammates are up there so I felt real comfortable, the atmosphere up there is great."

When he contacted the Spartan letting them know he was on board the response was one of excitement.

"They were very excited, I talked to everyone except Coach Dantonio, as he was out. They're very excited."

Scout.com Midwest Recruiting Manager Allen Trieu had the following to say about Davis.

"Ed is an excellent athlete who runs and covers like a defensive back. He changes directions well, have very good ball skills, as well as coverage awareness. His quickness and speed make him dangerous as a blitzer or an edge rusher. He will need to add some strength to continue to do this at the college level. He'll also need to add weight, and bulk up to help him take on and shed blockers. This is a very good get for Michigan State."

Ed Davis was a player the Spartans wanted and were able to secure. SpartanDigest.com will continue to follow Davis until he signs his letter of intent in February.
