March to glory continues

As March continues to wind down, four MSU recruits still have championship dreams floating around in their heads. See how the Spartans' future superstars fared in the Illinois and Michigan state tournaments.

Shannon Brown, the 6'3" guard out of Proviso East led the Pirates to a 63-46 win over St. Joseph in an Illinois Class AA sectional semifinal matchup.

Brown poured in 20 of his 30 points in the second half to secure Proviso East (25-3)a spot in the sectional championship Friday night against Chicago (Hubbard).

While over in Michigan, three Class C teams look to be headed for a collision course in the upcoming week.

Detroit St. Martin DePorres guard Brandon Cotton dropped 27 points to help his team to an easy 62-38 win over Dundee in a regional semifinal matchup.

DePorres (23-1)returns to action tonight for a game with Inkster in the regional final.

Flint Beecher forward Marquise Gray scored 16 points and grabbed nine boards to lead the Buccaneers to a hard-fought 56-52 win over previously undefeated Pewamo-Westphalia in a regional semifinal.

The Buccaneers (19-5)return to action Friday night for a showdown with Leslie in the regional final.

North Muskegon was a winner over conference rival Shelby 61-58. 6-foot-10 center Drew Naymick hit six straight free throws in the closing minutes to secure the lead.

Naymick finished with a game-high 21 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. The Norsemen (23-1) earned a trip to the regional final on Friday where they'll meet up with Sanford-Meridian.
