Spartan 66 Player Rankings #2

In looking at players on the current roster and players getting ready to enter Michigan State this fall, presents its Spartan 66 Rankings. What is our reason for naming sixty-six Spartans? Michigan State last won a National Championship in 1966. We are now at player #2.

SD Ranking: #2

Greg Jones

Position: Linebacker

Exp: Senior

While some would have placed Greg Jones in the #1 position in these rankings, we feel he has proven what he is capable of doing and is such a sure producer on the field to take a step back. There is no stopping Jones in what has been a great career since signing with Michigan State out of Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller High School. All-American, All-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and all everything for the Spartans, Greg Jones will go down as one of the all-time greats in MSU Football history.

Strengths: Desire, explosion, speed, quickness, leadership.

Weakness: Can he get even better?

Overall: Some thought Greg Jones was headed to the NFL after his junior season. Mark Dantonio and Pat Narduzzi knew otherwise as Jones felt he still had unfinished business to attend to at Michigan State. Spartan fans should enjoy this final season and Jones should continue his climb in the Spartans record books..

Why He Made The List: Was there any question Greg Jones would be at the top of this list? He is one of the top players in all of college football and while some would feel he should be the number one Spartan, we feel his importance in the overall success of the team ranks him second. Enjoy this final season as Jones will be missed no matter who follows him in the coming years. He is just that good .
