Worthy Happy With Opener

For Jerel Worthy the season opener was a time to have fun and shake off the rust that had been building since last January. SpartanDigest.com spoke with the Spartans defensive tackle after the game.

Having missed the spring due to injury, Spartans defensive tackle Jerel Worthy could not wait to shake off the rust that had been building since the Spartans last game against Texas Tech. How does it feel to get back in the action?

"It felt good to get back out there and do what I love to do. I could not wait to get my feet wet again and today I feel the defense line played a solid game in helping the team to a victory."

While Worthy would finish with three tackles (1 for loss) and a pass breakup, he was more excited about the play of the defensive line as a whole.

"I feel some of our young guys really stepped up today and showed what they can do. Anthony (Rashad White), Kevin (Pickelman), Todd (Anderson), Denzel and the other all played well. We had good effort and put some pressure on the quarterback.

Not only did the Worthy and the Spartans defensive line do a good job of putting pressure on the quarterback, they also helped the linebackers make plays. Greg Jones was very happy with their performance.

"The guys up front did a great job of keeping guys off of us today. Because of them the linebackers are able to go out and do our job."

Next week will bring a new test for Worthy and the rest of the Spartans as they face Florida Atlantic at Ford Field.
