Sam Webb: I saw that you at the Michigan vs. UCONN game a few weeks back. What did you think?
Maty Mauk: "I hadn't been up there since I was a little kid. We have an offensive line coach that played there. We went up there together. Of course, I went as a recruit and we had a pretty good time. It was a great experience. That new dedication of the stadium that was pretty sweet. The crowd got into it. The offense was clicking pretty good. Week 2 (versus Notre Dame), it got a lot better. It was pretty fun."
Sam Webb: Has Michigan been recruiting you very long?
Maty Mauk: "It started about a month or two ago."
Sam Webb: What other schools besides Michigan are really showing you a lot of interest right now?
Maty Mauk: "I'm actually getting a bunch of stuff right now. It is mainly Missouri, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State, Virginia, and Oregon. I actually have my first letter today from USC. There is a bunch and I can't name them right now."
Sam Webb: Any verbal scholarship offers at this time?
Maty Mauk: "Yeah. Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Missouri and Ball State."
Sam Webb: What other campuses have you been too so far?
Maty Mauk: "I was at the Notre Dame versus Michigan game."
Sam Webb: What did you think of that contest?
Maty Mauk: "It was exciting. Coach Kelly, I had faith in him, but of course Michigan pulled it out. His style of offense anything can happen. It was a great experience."
Sam Webb: Because of your brother's experience playing under Brian Kelly at Cincinnati, would you say that he is the coach you're most familiar with in his this recruiting process so far?
Maty Mauk: "Yeah so far. Him and Coach Yost from Missouri. Coach Molnar from Notre Dame. Those are the coaches I mostly talk to."
Sam Webb: Did you grow up a fan of any particular school?
Maty Mauk: "Michigan turned into Ohio State, and then Cincinnati when my brother went there. Right now I don't have one. I'm just waiting my turn."
Sam Webb: How did you go from being a Michigan fan to Ohio State fan?
Maty Mauk: "People around me mostly."
Sam Webb: Let us talk about your game a little bit. Describe it in your own words.
Maty Mauk: "Dual threat. Making plays."
Sam Webb: What's your height, weight and 40 time?
Maty Mauk: "6'2", 190 and ran a 4.5."
Sam Webb: Is there a particular offense…obviously you're great with your legs as well as his arm. Is there a particular style of offense that you're looking for or are you open to any style of offense?
Maty Mauk: "I'm mostly open, but I'd like to be in some kind spread."
Sam Webb: Take me back through last year… how did it go for your team collectively and then for you individually?
Maty Mauk: "My freshman year, we started off 0-3. We had 10 new starters on offense. We won the last seven games of the season. Our offense had 3600 yards and 36 touchdowns I think. My sophomore year we went 10 and 2. We lost the first one, won the next ten and then lost the last one. We had 4500 yards and 46 touchdowns."
Sam Webb: You guys are off to a 3-0 start right?
Maty Mauk: "Yes, our first three games, we scored 174 points and a little over 1500 yards."
Sam Webb: How many of those yards have been through the air and how many have been on the ground for you?
Maty Mauk: "I think 1400 through the air and probably 200 to 350 rushing."
Sam Webb: What are going to be things that are going to separate a group of schools or a school from the rest?
Maty Mauk: "Probably mostly the coaches and if they're good people that will help me succeed in life."
Sam Webb: Do you sort of have a timeline for how long you would like this process to last?
Maty Mauk: "I would like to have it done with before or during football season next year. I want to get to know the people before I make a decision."
Sam Webb: Is distance from home going to be a factor for you for instance?
Maty Mauk: "I don't think so. I just want to play and get my education started."
Sam Webb: Do you have a favorite at this point?
Maty Mauk: "I'm all open right now."
