D.J. Humphries is one of the top overall players in the football class of 2012. D.J. talks about the offers he has received, how he is working to play better, and his thoughts on Shoelace. D.J. Humphries is having a lot of fun this year now that his Charlotte Mallard Creek team is off to a 3-0 start. The 6-5, 265-pounder is making sure he does his part to help the team -- and that is protecting QB Marquise Williams.
"I make sure that Marquise is protected," he told GoBlueWolverine. "But I also like for the coaches to call some running plays so that I can get out and have a few pancakes."
Talking with D.J., he is a fun loving kid that comes across as very humble, and he's a hard worker -- it is no wonder that he is already up to 21 scholarship offers.
"It's been real crazy,"he said. "I have been receiving a lot of mail from colleges. I don't really like too much attention. I am just trying to put in work out there. I don't want anyone working harder then me. I would like to work ten times as hard in the classroom and on the field as anyone else."
One of those schools that D.J. has an offer from is Michigan, and he has been paying attention to what is going on up in Ann Arbor.
"Michigan has been sending me mail, and I had a chance to see the team play UCONN. I can see they have more chemistry there. They are a hard team to deal with."
When Humphries is watching college football he pays particular attention to the offensive line, as he did when he watched the UCONN game.
"I like number 79 the tackle (Perry Dorrestein) -- he was very aggressive and his run blocking was very good."
"Now number 65 the guard (Patrick Omameh) he is an animal -- he was mashing a ton of folks. I like to see a big guy move like that."
There is one other player that he seems to favor over all the rest of the Wolverines.
"Shoelace is something else! Last year I thought he was real hype, and now seeing him run that fast with his shoes untied was something to see. That guy can really play."
It is clear the wolverines would like for him to come out for a visit soon.
"Me and my dad have been talking about taking some games in, and we are trying to come up October 6" ... with Marquise, for Michigan vs. Michigan State.
