Initial 2003/04 Best Guess Recruiting Class list: Defense

Defensive Linemen

- Michael Massey (6-5, 235 lbs., 4.7 in the 40, 225-lb. bench press, 2.5 GPA) from Cleveland St. Ignatius. He's the brother of Wolverine Pat Massey. Mike attended the Purdue basketball game, and the Wis. game last fall. He had injury problems his junior season, but made 81 tackles and nine sacks. Massey is a consensus top-ten Ohio junior, and one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top seven defensive ends. As a tight end, Massey made 15 receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown; as a DE 9 sacks, 81 tackles, and close to 20 quarterback hurries.

- Chris Rogers (6-3, 240 lbs., 4.7 40, 340-lb. bench press, 3.3 GPA) from Wexford, Pa., North Allegheny (in western Pa.). As a junior he recorded 75 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss and eight sacks. He attended the OSU basketball game Junior Day, and was OFFERED. In mid-March he told us, "Michigan is at the top … I'm going to try to get to spring practices at Pitt, Michigan, Penn State, Iowa and Kentucky. If not for spring practices, then in the summer. And as far as summer camps, I'm going to two camps at Pitt, and the Michigan camp …"

- Nick Hayden (6-5, 270 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 320-lb. bench press, 28-inch vertical jump, 3.0 GPA) from Hartland, Wis., Arrowhead. His junior season he had approx. twenty sacks, and approx. ten tackles a game. He has a Michigan OFFER.In mid-Marh he told us, "My mom and dad and I went for a visit for the OSU basketball game .We had a meeting Coach Carr. They had seen my tapes and Coach Carr offered me a scholarship. I will probably attend a spring practice at Michigan."

- Ronald Talley (planned 2003 U-M Camper, 6-4, 235 lbs.) from Detroit Renaissance. He attended the OSU basketball game Junior Day. Michigan is his early favorite.< As a junior he made 129 tackles, including 19 for loss and eight sacks.

- Bernard Faithful (2002 U-M Camper, 6-4, 230 lbs.) from Detroit King. He has attended the OSU basketball game Junior Day, the Iowa basketball game, and the MSU football game last fall.

- Vernon Gholston (6-4, 250, 4.6 in the 40, 3.0 GPA) from Detroit Cass Tech. He attended the Iowa basketball game. His coach told Jim S. in Feb.: "Michigan is his favorite and he wants to go to the Michigan camp."

Linebackers

- Marcus Freeman (planned U-M Camper, U.S. Army Combine stats: 6-2, 225 lbs, 4.66 in the 40, 4.22 shuttle, 30-inch vertical jump, 28 bench press reps. of 185 lbs. ... 430-pound bench press, 575 squat) from Huber Heights, Ohio, Wayne. In early March he told us, "I was scheduled to go to the Junior Day at Michigan for the OSU basketball game, but we had 6-7 inches of snow. I called Coach Herrmann and he said they had several inches up there too, so we scheduled a visit for a Michigan spring practice instead. I'm also coming up for the Michigan Nike combine." "I've been a big fan of both Michigan and Ohio State, it'd be between those two for the leader for me right now We also got a chance to talk to Marcus briefly at the U.S. Army combine. He has a Michigan OFFER. He is one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top two inside linebackers.

- Eric Andino (6-4, 225 lbs., 4.8 in the 40) from Buffalo Grove, Ill. In early March he told us, "Michigan not offered me. Coach Moeller has been to my school, and they are mailing me things. But my offers so far are from Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Northwestern. If Ohio State offered me they'd be high on the list. But I'm grown up now, so just because I followed a school as a kid, that doesn't mean that's where I'm going. Michigan has always a favorite of mine too. I've heard U-M is nice, but I've never been there. I want to get there quick -- hopefully that next week. He attended the US Army Combine, at which we talked to him briefly.

- Sam Carson (6-2, 230 lbs.) from Downers Grove, Ill., South. As a junior he was first team all state in Class 8A with120 tackles, six interceptions, and four sacks a year ago. He attended the OSU basketball game Junior Day. Illinois has offered him.

- Kyle Williams (6-3, 220 lbs.) from Boilingbrook, Ill. (Todd Howard's alma mater). Michigan was really in the picture for recruiting his brother DL Steve a fre years back, but grades were a problem. As a junior Williams had 82 tackles, five sacks, and two interceptions. Illinois has offered him.

- Roger Allison (6-2, 225 lbs., 4.7 in the 40) from Lake Orion, Mich. He attended the MSU football game last fall. In mid-Feb. his father told us, "Roger and Michigan? He'd love to go to Michigan. If U-M offers him where will he get a better offer?" He also attended an MSU winter junior day.

- Wendell Brown (6-1, 205 lbs.) from Detroit MLK. He attended the OSU basketball game Junior Day.

- Carthion Bibbs (6-1, 225 lbs., 4.50 in the 40) from Saginaw, Mich.

- Dan Connor (6-3, 215lbs.) from Wallingford, Penn., Strath Haven. He is one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top three weakside linebackers.

- Fullback/Linebacker Dan Lawlor (6-3, 226 lbs., 4.6 in the 40). He also has a 300+ maximum bench press) from Mechanicsburg (Pa.) Cumberland Valley (in central Pa.)Last season Lawlor ran for 1,200 yards on 147 carries with 23 touchdowns. In two season as the starting fullback he has 2,634 yards and 47 scores.



Defensive Backs

- Ted Ginn (2002 Michigan camper, U.S. Army Combine stats: 6-2, 187 lbs., 28.0 vertical jump, 4.40 in the 40, 4.17 in the shuttle, 28-inch vertical jump) from Cleveland, Ohio, Glenville. Ted's father, the Glenville Head Coach, talked with us for quite a while. We asked him if it was trues what we had heard -- that Tedd was liable to be an early OSU commitment. "Ted likes Ohio State, but he likes Michigan too. In fact Ted loves Michigan, but he also loves Ohio State. He has grown up following both." Ginns senior and junior were at the OSU game junior day. And Ted camped at Michigan last summer with Donte Whitner. In fact he has been at the Michigan camp the past three years. He has a Michigan OFFER. He is MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top cornerback. Ginn was the top hurdler in the state last year as a sophomore, clearing the 110-meter hurdles in 13.96.

- WR/DB Cameron Colvin (6-2, 191 lbs., 4.49 in the 40, 33-inch vertical jump) from Concord, Calif., DeLaSalle. As a junior he caught 14 passes for 405 yards ( 28.9 yards per catch) and four touchdowns. He in mid-March he told us that U-M is his favorite.

- Terrail Lambert from Ventura (Calif.) Saint Bonaventure had US Army combine stats of: 5-11, 187 lbs., 4.43 in the 40 (on a slow track), 4.08 sec. shuttle (pro agility), 32-inch vertical, twelve bench press reps of 185 lbs., a 9-foot 9-inch broad jump, benched 185-pounds 12 times, 1.59 sec. 10 yard dash, 7.31 sec. three-cone drill, 9-9 standing broad jump. Participants were given a 'score' based on all these stats -- and Lambert finished with the highest score overall. IN early March he told us, "When I first started following college football, in 4th or 5th grade, it was Michigan that I became a fan of. It was their uniforms at first. Then I learned what a top program it is. Then in the 1997 National Championship year, I really got hooked. Charles Woodson became by favorite player." He added, Northwestern has offered me," and he also likes, "Miami, USC, and Notre Dame."

- Bobby Buchanan (5-11, 175 lbs., 4.4 in the 40) from Joliet, Ill., Catholic. He was injured his junior season. He is one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top three cornerbacks.

- DeMarcus Laury (5-10, 205 lbs., 4.5 in the 40) from Saginaw, Mich. The cousin of LaMarr Woodley is reportedly a better DB prospect than RB.

- 'Athlete' Charles Stewart (6-0, 180 lbs.) from Farmington Hills, Mich., Harrison. He attended the MSU football game last fall, the OSU basketball game junior day, and the first spring practice.
