Michigan Makes Move on Morgan (Part 2)

Holland (MI) West Ottawa LB/ATH Desmond Morgan chats with GoBlueWolverine, about his game, his decision timeline, and more. Is Michigan his new favorite? (Part 2 of 2).

Sam Webb:  How is your season going so far?

Desmond Morgan:  "It is going pretty well.  Our team is 7-2 right now.  We made the playoffs this year for the first time in five years.  That was definitely a huge citywide thing, definitely school wise.  Everybody has been excited for that.  We have our first playoff game this week, but the season has gone well so far.  We played Redford, played a lot of tough games against a lot of opponents with a lot of talent and a lot of speed, things like that.  Our team, we had a lot of guys this year…we weren't necessarily the biggest team or the fastest team, but we had a lot of guys with a lot of heart, a lot of attitude. They have definitively been doing it so far for this year.  We just got to keep things together fight our way through the season."

Sam Webb:  For people that have not seen you play, imagine you're a scout in the stands and you're watching Desmond Morgan on the field play.  Break down your game for me.

Desmond Morgan:  "I just try to read well.  I break down film with my dad and each week I go in and I watch a lot of film of the other team and try to understand as much as I can and get my reads down and things like that.  So when I get on the field, I definitely try to read flow and see people coming back across guards and tackles and things like that.  On the offensive side of the ball, just try to keep things together. I play quarterback at this time and this is the first time I've ever played quarterback in my life. It is definitely a new experience and we're working hard on getting the throwing down and things like that.  Probably a run first quarterback I would say.  I played running back for most of my life through Rocket football, middle school and things like that.   Just running the ball and things like, just go through and follow my blockers up through and get the passing as much as I can as we go along."

Sam Webb:  What's your height, weight and 40 time?

Desmond Morgan:  "My height is 6'1".  My weight is 225 pounds.  My 40 time is a 4.67."

Sam Webb:  Where do things stand with your recruitment right now?  Do you have a favorite?

Desmond Morgan:  "Tonight when I got the offer I definitely the largest offer I've received, but I'm still taking things slow and just trying to get a complete feel for the process and understand everything before I make a decision or announce a favorite or anything like that.  I think you really have to think things through and understand all that type of school before you get something like that.  Like I said, I grew up a Michigan fan and I'm a definite supporter of them.  I've definitely gained a lot of respect for other schools and things like that going through this process and visiting other schools and stuff like that.  I'm just taking it slow and fully grasp the process and understand everything before making a decision or announcing a favorite like that."

Sam Webb:  Do have in your mind a timeline for how you want this to go?

Desmond Morgan:  "Yeah a little bit, but no set date.  Nothing like it has to be signing day or anything like that.  Just kind of go along and when it feels right, I think it'll feel right and I'll know the time when to make that decision.  Definitely not right now, waiting until after the season is done, focusing on that first and foremost, the rest of my senior season and the rest of the season with my team.  After that taking it from there and take my visits and things like that."

Sam Webb:  When you sit down to make a decision, whenever that is, what are going to be the most significant factors in that choice?

Desmond Morgan:  "First and foremost, my dad has always told me education.  It is definitely going to be a school that has a great opportunity to get a great degree and get a great education.  After that, the family, the bond that I've gained with the coaching staff and getting to know them and the place feels right.  I'm going to talk about it with my dad, my coach and family members and get their feel on things.  Just get an understanding for it."

Sam Webb:  Are you going to take an official visit to Michigan? Are you going to take all five officials?

Desmond Morgan:  "At this point, I think I would like to take an official visit there and really learn about everything that they have to offer and things like that.  As for taking all five, I am not sure yet."

Sam Webb:  Do you have in your mind a couple of others that you kind of think you will take?

Desmond Morgan:  "I'm still trying to work it out.  I've talked to a couple of coaches, Coach Elko from Bowling Green and Coach Camp from Akron.  I talked to them a little bit about taking an official sometime in December or something like that.  I have not sat down and put them on the calendar yet with my father.  I haven't officially decided on it I guess, but I've been thinking about it."
